Tyler Perry pays for everyone's layaway items at two Atlanta Walmart locations


Though the movie star tried to do the good deed anonymously, he says that unforeseen circumstances revealed him as the Secret Santa.

We're told Perry dropped $178k at one store in ATL and another $256k at a nearby store in Douglasville.

Perry's holiday gift totals roughly $430,000.

Actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry announced Thursday that he has paid off all of the layaway tabs for the lucky shoppers at two Walmart stores in Georgia. Putting an item on layaway allows customers to make small payments on items until they pay in full and can retrieve their product.

"I know it's a hard time, a lot of people are struggling and I'm just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this", Perry said in the video, adding that his intention had originally been for his contribution to remain anonymous.

"I have paid for all of your layaways for Christmas", Perry said smiling. "Merry Christmas", Perry said to close his video. "So I just wanted to go ahead and tell you!" Eastern Time on Thursday, Dec. 6.

Writer, director, producer, and actor Tyler Perry paid off more than $400,000 Walmart Christmas layaways recently in and around his Atlanta home.

Perry was inspired to join in the spirit of giving this holiday season after seeing "Good Morning America's" story on New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson.
