Frenkie de Jong issues statement ahead of January transfer window

Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong could be set to join PSG over Manchester City this summer for £66.8 million, according to reports.

The Holland global has caught the eye of a slew of Europe's top clubs with a string of impressive performances for Erik ten Hag's side, who now sit in second place in the Eredivisie.

The 21-year-old is now one of the most highly rated young players in world football and he, along with teammate Matthijs De Ligt, has been linked heavily with possible moves to Barcelona and Manchester City.

De Telegraaf also says PSG's move came about after a direct request from Kylian Mbappe.

"With five games to go until the winter break, I just want to focus on this weekend's game against the PEC and the next one in the Champions League against Bayern Munich". Then we will see.

'Maybe I'll stay for another year, maybe I'll leave. But I am not sure, ' he told the paper.

The midfielder is also on the agenda of very powerful clubs like Manchester City, but at Barcelona they believe that Frenkie, his family and his representatives haven't yet made a final decision on his future. Have your say in the comment section below.

De Jong has been one of three midfield targets since the end of the summer along with Paul Pogba and Adrien Rabiot.

Expounding on the transfer speculation, in particular the stories surrounding a big-money bid from Ligue 1 champions PSG, he added: "It's an issue since the start of the season. I try to see how they move", he said.

"The dark blue jersey of France's upcoming champions PSG, not the light blue one of Manchester City, will nearly certainly become De Jong's next summer", the paper said. There are so many to learn from.
