India announce final 12 for the first Test against Australia

India have never won a Test series in Australia and have only won four of the 44 matches played Down Under since 1947 - but there is a growing sense that the visitors have their best ever chance of recording a historic victory.

That was the closest India has come at winning at series in Australia in 11 attempts.

Paine noted offspinner Nathan Lyon had bowled "a mountain of overs" during Australia's recent Test series against Pakistan and was prepared to back up that effort, while Travis Head could also provide a part-time spin option. "And I think it's important that we get those long partnerships together, in Australia that will really help us a lot", Rahane said. We are not going to take them lightly at all.

Indian batting all-rounder Hanuma Vihari has been included in the 12-member squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the first Test against Australia, beginning December 6.

"We've had a good relationship over a number of years, so we can talk pretty honestly about that", Paine told reporters on his work with Langer.

The change in team balance was vindicated by the way the front-liners dominated Joe Root's team, and a year on the captain Tim Paine and coach Justin Langer have sought to repeat the dose against Virat Kohli's tourists. One would wonder when did the last time the opposition enjoyed such a luxury in Australia.

The odds are stacked in favour of the tourists - they top the Test rankings and boast the world's best batsman in Virat Kohli, plus a high-class pace bowling attack. "But I don't see anything radical happening because the skill-set is high and we necessarily wouldn't need to get into anything but at times when situations are hard you do find ways to upset the rhythm".

Ray Lindwall, Craig McDermott, Damien Fleming and Peter Siddle are the only other Australian quicks to have taken five-for in a Test against India in Adelaide.

In his 10 Test appearances on Australian soil, the lanky seamer has managed just 20 wickets at an average of 62.

Which TV channels will broadcast Test series?

"I think [Jasprit] Bumrah, Umesh and [Mohammed] Shami should play in the first Test".

"We've been through so much in the last nine months". Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav have been left out as India have opted to go in with three pacers and a solitary spinner in Ravichandran Ashwin.

India's middle order also looks in good form with Cheteshwar Pujara, Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari all making half-centuries in the CA XI game.
