Verizon, Samsung set to roll out 5G phone next year

Can't connect right now! The Galaxy S10 was not explicitly mentioned, but all the signs are there.

This could allow the Galaxy S10 to take selfies that fit more subjects into a single frame. There's also a headphone jack on the bottom edge of the rendered phone.

MySmartPrice emphasised the added camera could force the Galaxy S10+ to arrive with a "pill-shaped display hole", rather than the single and smaller circular cutout expected on some other Galaxy S10 hardware.

With the addition of the hole in the display, it looks like Samsung has managed to give the Galaxy S10 Plus a almost bezel-less look without including a notch. It's now being rumored that Samsung will be using an ultrasonic scanner instead of optical.

Some models of the Galaxy S10 have been rumoured to come with the firm's newly-revealed Infinity-O display that would present Android fans with a device that is both bezel and notch-free.

Thus, Apple may be ceding the 5G market to Samsung for potentially a year or more, though it's unclear whether that will provide Samsung with any momentum against the iPhone maker-Apple has historically eschewed supporting new network technologies, at least initially. This phone has a larger gap to make room for two front-facing cameras, but it's also possible that's a single camera and some other sensor like a 3D face scanner or iris reader.

That announcement dovetails with Verizon's promise that it will switch on a commercial mobile 5G network sometime in the first half of next year. There's no information on the pricing and availability details for the Huawei Nova 4 just yet, so stay tuned for more updates.

Samsung is looking to get a first-mover advantage in 5G smartphones, with rival Apple reportedly planning to sit out of the game until 2020. The Galaxy S10 family is expected to be unveiled at the next iteration of Mobile World Congress which is kicking off in Barcelona, Spain, in late February.
