Newlyweds killed in helicopter crash hours after wedding in US

William Byler and Bailee Ackerman died Saturday after the family helicopter they were riding in - just hours after they got married - crashed in Texas.

The crash occurred near Uvalde, about 85 miles (135km) west of San Antonio.

A young bride and groom from Texas were killed when their helicopter suddenly crashed moments after departing the reception, according to reports.

Uvalde Police received a call from an aviation monitoring center around midnight Saturday notifying them of a possible downed aircraft.

Later, all that remained on the site was a picture of the couple, their names and the date and place of the wedding.

A wedding website created on The Knot showed a statement from the company on Monday saying: "Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with this family at their great loss. Our hearts hurt now, but we know this is not forever".

But numerous friends were offering condolences and remembrances about the newlyweds on social media.

One of the wedding guests shared a video with KSAT of the newlyweds taking off in the helicopter - now the last images of the couple.

A wedding guest captured the happy couple - Ackerman in a white gown and veil and Byler in a tuxedo and cowboy hat - heading toward the doomed chopper through a row of lighted sparklers, ABC13 reported.

The Department of Public Safety and Federal Aviation Administration is investigating what caused the crash, according to reports.
