This setup enables the convertible to rocket from 0-60 miles per hour (0-96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 155 miles per hour (250 km/h). The vehicle makes its formal debut this month at the 2018 Los Angeles auto show and will be in showrooms next March, arriving as a 2019 model. An M8 from BMW M is also in the pipeline. It's also paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Viewed from the side, the M850i Convertible looks like a fancy slip-on shoe.Like the 6 Series Convertible it replaces, the 8 Series uses a heavily insulated fabric roof that can be raised or lowered in just 15 seconds, and operated at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

At the back, the car's width and low center of gravity are clearly in evidence.

The slender all-LED rear light clusters extend deep into the flanks; the taillights illuminate uniformly in a distinctive "L" shape. That 0-60 time is 0.2 second slower than the coupe.

The BMW 8 Series Convertible will be launched around March 2019 in European markets. The BMW 8 Series Convertible features a standard automatically activated rollover protection system, which activates the moment that data analysed by the central safety electronics indicate a risk of a roll-over.
