Roman Reigns made the heartbreaking decision to relinquish his Universal Championship this week on Monday Night Raw when it was revealed that The Big Dog was fighting a fresh battle with Leukemia that would force him to step aside for the foreseeable future.

Roman Reigns shocked the professional wrestling world Monday night when he announced he's relinquishing the Universal Title.

Reigns is taking a leave of absence to combat the disease, with an announcement from WWE noting that he is making his fight public "in an effort to raise awareness and funds for research in order to advance cures for the disease".

However, Reigns opened the show wearing casual clothing and announced he had been living with leukaemia for 11 years and the cancer has now returned.

Reigns went on to say that he was diagnosed with leukemia at 22 years old, but the leukemia was quickly in remission.

Anoa'i, 33, played college football for Georgia Tech and attempted to play for both the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars.

"I didn't have a job, I didn't have any money, I didn't have a home and I had a baby on the way". However, he was cut by both teams before the season ever began and never played a snap in an National Football League game.

After making his announcement, Reigns laid down the title belt in the ring and was then embraced at the top of the entrance ramp by teammates and close friends Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

WWE.com summarised the ending of the speech: 'Speaking of the "faith" that had carried him through his life, Reigns promised the WWE Universe that he would return to "swing for the fences" at whatever curveballs life threw at him'.

"But do you know who gave me a chance?"

WWE is widely regarded as "fake", but this very real and raw moment left fans completely stunned. "The team who gave me a chance was WWE".

This was an absolutely shocking announcement and obviously I join everyone in wishing him the very best with this battle.
