Now the American, fresh from winning the PGA Tour money title for the second consecutive year, begins play Thursday in the CIMB Classic aiming for his third win in four years at the tournament, and his 10th on tour.
"Twenty years later, I hold a Tour card".
"The golf course is in good shape".
"It is such a pleasure to be here back in Malaysia again". If he hangs on to win this week, he will have earned almost as much for winning this one tournament as he has in his entire PGA Tour career. Two-time champion Justin Thomas enters as the favorite at 5-1 CIMB Classic odds, followed by Billy Horschel and Ryan Moore at 14-1.
"I think it's a great sign of improvement of Indian golf and I think the next generation will definitely get pumped up, they'll definitely work hard and hopefully in the future the number increases".More news: ‘Mental health should be as important as physical health’
"My goal is to be in the top-60 in the FedExCup points, and keep the card as long as I can, same as my good friend Anirban (Lahiri)". "This is always going to be the place I got my first PGA Tour victory and that's very, very special".
Perez picked up more than half - 56 percent - of his FedEx Cup points from the three tournaments in Asia a year ago which also included stops in South Korea and Shanghai. "I think I've got enough experience from playing against the world-class players to do so".
I'm looking forward to defending my title and seeing my fans there again. "Obviously all three events are big events". I feel like I can win on a given day when I'm playing really well.
Other stars competing in the event include 2014 FedExCup Champion Billy Horschel, Europe's Ryder Cup star Paul Casey, double CIMB Classic victor Ryan Moore and Brandt Snedeker, who together with Moore finished runner-up at the Safeway Open after losing to Tway in a playoff on Sunday. This year, Casey has played in 20 events and he has one win with six top-10 finishes. Malaysia's Kim Leun Kwang and Ben Leong will fly the local flag. Despite the fact that Moore recorded just one top-10 finish in his final 11 starts of the 2017-18 season, the model had him as one of the top three contenders for the Safeway Open.
The event will celebrate its ninth edition this year, and is the second tournament of the new 2018-19 PGA TOUR Season.
