World number two Caroline Wozniacki secured her third win of the campaign at the China Open after beating Anastasija Sevastova.
Wozniacki, victorious at the Australian Open at the start of the year, has looked in ominous form as she prepares to defender her WTA Finals crown in Singapore at the end of the season.
"As a little kid I had a dream of becoming a professional tennis player, becoming number one in the world".
Top seed Juan Martin del Potro will be strong favourite when he faces unseeded Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili in the men's final later Sunday.
"I think I had a dream of that, but I don't know how realistic I really believed that was going to be".
Del Potro was far from his best and has been fighting flu or a cold for several days in the Chinese capital.More news: Sony officially addresses that it's working on a new console
In the set, she steamrolled to take a double-break 4-1 lead and held to it until the score was 4-3.
"I have been playing through pain in my back this whole week", said Osaka.
Sevastova is set to move up to 12th in the new world rankings on Monday despite missing out on her third title of the season. Sevastova put up some brilliant shot and failed to convert her first two break point chances as Wozniacki completed a big hold to 1-1.
She sealed the win with the second of three match points on her own serve.
The Dane of Polish ancestry, who was also the victor in the Australian Open and Eastbourne this year, was a clear favourite throughout the tournament after defeating all rivals quickly, including China's Wang Qiang, Czech Katerina Siniakova, Estonian Anett Kontaveit, Croatian Petra Martic and Swiss Belinda Bencic.
