Wrapping Avengers 4, Chris Evans hangs up Cap's shield

He continued: 'I mean, I think we all [thought] Avengers 4 kind of wraps it up.

He has since gone on to play the Captain in nine more films including two First Avenger sequels, three Avengers films as well as the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War sequel.

Evans was on hand for the last pieces of filming for Avengers 4, which is now untitled, and sent out a tweet as he finished the role that he has played for eight years.

Chris Evans was feeling grateful Thursday after wrapping Avengers 4.

Chris has played Captain American numerous times over the last eight years.

The news will come as a surprise to many but the Boston-born actor has previously hinted that he would prefer to leave while the MCU remains arguably the top entertainment franchise in the world, although a huge question mark now hangs over Captain America's exact fate in Avengers 4.

"You want to get off the train before they push you off", the star explained.
