The New England Patriots tight end reportedly killed what would have been a blockbuster offseason trade that would have sent him to the Detroit Lions, ESPN reported.

It got to the point, according to the report, that Gronkowski was so unhappy with almost becoming a Lion that he wouldn't return any phone calls from the Detroit organization.

Imagine seeing Rob Gronkowski in Sunday night's Patriots-Lions game, but instead of him wearing the Pats' colors, he's wearing Lions' traditional silver.

"Yeah, it happened", Gronkowski said after Sunday's loss. Patricia's approach on defense unsettled New England quarterback Tom Brady.

Though the Patriots lost, it's clear that Gronkowski was exactly where he wanted to be.

The Packers already got a taste of Mack, who was traded to the Chicago Bears the week before the season opener.

Over two career games against the Packers, Gronkowski has eight catches for 123 yards and no touchdowns.

The deal was thwarted when Gronkowski threatened to retire if he was shipped off to Motown.

The Patriots ultimately reworked Gronk's contract, which added $4.3 million in incentives for the 2018 season.

The Patriots (1-2) have had weaknesses exposed on both sides of the ball, losing two of their first three games for the first time since 2012. He was limited in practice early last week with an ankle injury, but he was removed from the injury report Friday.
