Audi is working with Amazon Home Services to help owners install a home charging system, which will take all night to charge the vehicle. The official power output has not been released, but Audi said it can do the benchmark 0-60 miles per hour sprint in about 5.5 sec. That places the e-tron squarely between the Audi Q3 and Q7.
Audi has also partnered with Electrify America, which plans to have 500 fast-charging sites around the U.S.by July 2019, many outside of retail spots like Walmart or Target. A concept preview of the e-tron GT is expected at the Los Angeles show later this year.
Future owners of the 2019 Audi e-tron can be extra green with a new partnership between the automaker and Arcadia Power.
Audi did not give us net USA horsepower or torque for the two electric motors, which it said would be announced closer to launch.
Audi officials said they do not have official range estimates for the e-tron SUV under USA testing procedures.
As you would expect from a modern, futuristic electric vehicle, the gadgetry on the inside of e-tron is unbelievable as well.More news: Trump pledges '100%' support during post-Florence visit to North Carolina
The e-tron includes many aerodynamic features, including special 20-inch wheels and underbody panels, but one we won't see soon in the USA are the slim side cameras in place of conventional mirrors. Performance specs weren't given, but the e-tron should have about 400 horsepower and almost 500 lb-ft of torque.
The e-tron (all lower case like quattro), is purely battery powered, has motors back and front for all-wheel-drive and keep its batteries under the floor for a low centre of gravity and 50:50 weight distribution.
The E-Tron looks, quite clearly, like an Audi SUV. It will be able to tow as much as 4,000 pounds. A brake-based torque vectoring system is also used to improve handling. Braking can also regenerate energy for the battery.
Prices for the e-tron will start from $74,800 for a Premium Plus model, which includes niceties like a premium audio system, heated and cooled front seats, and a panoramic sunroof as standard. A "Prestige" version with heads-up display, driver assist features, massage seats, and more luxury add-ons is $81,800. The Mercedes-Benz EQ C, the first nameplate in the automaker's all-electric sub-brand, is a 200-mile range crossover that delivers 402 horsepower using an 80-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. All prices exclude a $995 destination fee. It is expected to roll into USA showrooms by mid-2019.
