Germany's Leroy Sane mystery solved

After missing out on a place in the World Cup squad, Sane made a seven-minute cameo for Germany this week but will not feature in the upcoming friendly against Peru after withdrawing from the squad.

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has been released from worldwide duty by Germany.

He contributed 10 goals and 15 assists during Manchester City's title-winning campaign, but fans were left shocked when he didn't make Germany's 23-man World Cup squad.

Regardless of the reason for Sane's departure, it is another chapter in a tumultuous time with the national team for the ex-Schalke star, who is yet to start a Premier League game this season.

There was speculation ahead of the weekend as to just why Manchester City striker Leroy Sane had suddenly quit the Germany squad and the answer is - to rush to his girlfriend's side for the birth of their daughter.

Sane was criticised by compatriot Toni Kroos in the build-up to Die Mannschaft's UEFA Nations League opener with France at the Allianz Arena on Thursday.

Global team-mate Toni Kroos claimed earlier this week that 22-year-old Sane, who has made 13 senior appearances for Germany, was not fulfilling his potential and must improve his attitude.

Real Madrid midfielder Kroos said: 'Sometimes you have the feeling with Leroy's body language that it is all the same whether we win or lose.
