Mac Miller's haunting interview about overdosing

"Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26".

Neither side revealed his cause of death, but the celebrity news site TMZ, which first reported the death, cited unnamed sources as saying he had overdosed on drugs. As his career progressed, critics noted an expansion in Miller's approach to music to include more singing, more serious themes and dark, dense production.

Rapper Mac Miller was pronounced dead Friday, according to TMZ.

After his 2011 debut "Blue Side Park" was released by an independent label and topped the charts, Miller turned to jazz and funk influences on later albums.

The artist was notably linked to the singer Ariana Grande, who ended their two-year relationship back in May and got engaged to comedian Pete Davidson just one month later.

In a profile article published the day before his death by Vulture, Miller said, "I used to rap super openly about really dark sh- because that's what I was experiencing at the time".

Added singer Solange Knowles: "Rest in your peace Mac Miller". That determination paid off - Miller's death is a tragedy whose tremors will be felt through hip-hop for a long time to come.

The influential rapper's fifth studio album Swimming was announced on 13 July and released early last month. Discussing life after the split, Miller told the outlet, "I was getting my bearings, figuring out how to move".

A week after their breakup, Miller was arrested for allegedly crashing his vehicle while drunk and then fleeing the scene. "I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety and prayed for his balance for years (and always will, of course)", she said.

"He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends, and fans", his family wrote in a statement obtained by CNN through Miller's publicist.

"He was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew, "the rapper wrote on Twitter". Im completely broken. God bless him. We wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
