The BMW assistant is powered by the company's Open Mobility Cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) with the new BMW operating system 7.0. It will also be updated regularly to expand available functions and skills. Saying "Hey BMW, I'm cold" will prompt the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant to adjust the temperature inside the auto accordingly.

With every command and question, the assistant learns the driver more and develops the ability to understand a driver's preferences and favorite settings; the system can remember often-frequented places and recognize commands like "take me home".

Users can also ask the assistant about various aspects of their vehicle, such as how the automatic high beams work, if the oil level is sufficient or whether there are any current warnings. In the future, the assistant will also be able to give fuel-saving driving tips or think ahead and warn drivers as necessary. To make navigation easier than ever, drivers can furthermore allow him to access their appointments calendar and contacts, whereupon he will find somewhere to park at the journey's destination, provide information on any traffic jams along the route and remind the driver when it is time to set off. This BMW ID will link the vehicle to you and your digital world, so presumably, you could hop in another BMW, enter your ID, and the new vehicle would be personalized. New cars with the Live Cockpit Professional pack will get the system.
