Mourinho prepared for 'difficult' season after transfer woes

Manchester United finished 19 points behind Premier League champions Manchester City last season, while bitter rivals Liverpool FC have spent nearly £200m on new signings this summer. The Barcelona boss is looking for a player who can lead his midfield and believes the French International could step into the boots.

José Mourinho appeared to take aim at Ed Woodward, Manchester United's executive vice-chairman, for not sanctioning all of his transfer targets, with the manager saying maybe his title should be downgraded to "head coach".

'Of course on the pitch we have a second and third choice, in case of not confidence or for some reason does not want to take, but he was ready.

"In the Premier League, we must get used to playing teams with the same quality we have", Mourinho told Sky Sports. I expect Leicester to make life hard and I see this being a tight game but ultimately feel United will have just enough to edge it.

But Neville has spectacularly suggested United could end the window with three new players.

Mourinho's Red Devils kickoff their campaign against Leicester City tomorrow. Sir Alex Ferguson hates him because he was the reason behind Pogba's departure to Juventus in 2012.

The Ivorian worldwide was signed by Mourinho for £30m in 2016 and fans consider him to be the best centre-back at the club.

City hasn't dipped into the deep pockets of its Abu Dhabi owners as significantly as Guardiola's first two summers in charge, but has still strengthened with club-record signing Riyad Mahrez.

But Pogba also had his say after the game, writing on Instagram: "I'll always give my best for the fans and my teammates no matter what's going on".

Despite being critical of the club, Scholes is hoping the Red Devils get their campaign off to a flawless start when they face Leicester City at 3am tomorrow.

"I'm not confident, I'm not confident and the market closes today so it is time at least for me to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed". I don't know their identity right now, I don't know how they can dig deep and turn a losing position to victory and they style that they'll come out with.

"I think what Jose Mourinho saw and what all of us saw in the summer was Paul Pogba smashing the middle of the France changing room, calling on the rest of the players, demanding more from them".
