Liverpool wrap up impressive pre-season with win against Torino

Liverpool completed their productive pre-season with a seventh win in nine friendlies, taking their goals tally to 26 in the process, as Jürgen Klopp's team defeated Torino 3-1 at Anfield.

The 25-year-old will be a vital cog in the Liverpool machine as they attempt to push on and become real contenders for the Premier League title, and Robertson has been nothing but praiseworthy of the Brazilian.

Jurgen Klopp started his first-choice front three ahead of Sunday's top-flight opener against West Ham United and last-season's 44-goal hero Mohamed Salah was close to latching onto Trent Alexander-Arnold's seventh-minute cross. One of the main things I was asked about after the game was: "'Can he really play as the No.6?' I said: "'Yes, he can and he will.' He had to learn and he had to improve and that's exactly what he did".

"For Raggy [Klavan] and Joel [Matip], probably they are not fit and can not play for the weekend, but we don't need 12 centre-halves, we only need two at least and one to change would be extremely cool". Dejan Lovren, who looked solid throughout the World Cup as Croatia just barely missed out on claiming the most coveted trophy in football, is set to return to training early this week, he certainly won't face Torino or be ready in time to run out against the Hammers at the weekend.

Italy worldwide Andrea Belotti pulled one back for the visitors with a powerful header, but after Klopp made a raft of substitutions, Daniel Sturridge nodded in a Xherdan Shaqiri cross to score for the third friendly in a row.

It was a moment which pleased Klopp as much as the performance. "The first two league games at least are in the preseason [for World Cup players]".

"I was not surprised, to be honest, but as a human being I was hoping for it, that it would be like this".

"He was in a really good shape, so we thought a few minutes tonight should be possible". I still remember the Burnley game [at Turf Moor in August 2016] when we lost 2-0 with 80 per cent possession. Hendo needs a pre-season but not as much as the others as he has not had long off'.
