Manchester United holds on to beat Real Madrid 2-1

"We will have (Victor) Lindelof who started training two days ago", Mourinho said after United's 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the pre-season International Champions Cup (ICC) on Wednesday.

The Manchester United boss has had similar meltdowns during both of his spells at Chelsea, and also when at Real Madrid, and is yet to make it into a fourth season at any of his previous clubs, with some at Old Trafford fearing history is repeating itself.

The player will join Los Blancos' pre-season in the upcoming days and will still insist on leaving the club.

"Obviously we didn't have a lot of our players but I think it was a good experience for the kids to train with the manager, to train with us and to learn what Manchester United represents".

Madrid pulled one back on the stroke of half time through Karim Benzema but United saw out the second half to secure a morale-boosting win over the La Liga giants.

"My players, fantastic in their effort".

Meanwhile, Mourinho says he is unsure when Martial, who wants a transfer this summer, will re-start training after leaving United's US training base last week for the birth of his son.

"I know my players gave everything and in the last 15 minutes we are dead and they bring on [Toni] Kroos and Asensio and Isco", Mourinho said after victory against his former team.

Man Utd: De Gea; Darmian, Bailly, Fosu-Mensah, Shaw; Herrera, Fred (Tuanzebe 68), McTominay (Mitchell 79); Mata (Garner 82), Alexis, A Pereira.

He also recently had a rant about the quality of some of United's youth players who were part of the club's pre-season tour of the USA while a few of the club's first team stars are still on holiday.
