Whatever the case may be, Phoenix is one of the finest actors of his generation and watching him portray the gradual descent of a normal man into the deranged mind of the Joker will be fascinating.

And now that the news is officially official, BossLogic has drawn up a piece of concept art that imagines Joaquin Phoenix in the title role.

Do you think Phoenix will make a great Joker?

Warner Bros. recently gave the official green light to this Joker Origin movie, which we first got word of last August.

All doubt has now disappeared after bosses at Warner Bros. signed a contract with Phoenix for the lead role in the DC Comics picture. Under new leadership, Warner Bros.is reportedly moving away from announcing a slew of superhero release dates far in advance, which some thought crippled the launch of the DCEU with rushed productions. The villain is also rumored to appear in the Suicide Squad sequel as well as the standalone Harley Quinn movie.

The film will also take place in the '80s and will not follow in the steps of a traditional comic-book movie, but appear more like a gritty crime drama, according to Variety.

Upcoming DC Extended Universe films include Aquaman on December 21st, Shazam on April 5, 2019, and Wonder Woman 2 on November 1, 2019.
