Rodolfo Rodriguez: Full Story of 92-Year-Old Assaulted In Texas

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has launched an investigation to find those responsible for the attack, reports NBC Los Angeles.

After a passer-by stopped to record the incident on video and call police, four men ran up and began kicking Rodriguez while the child's mother shouted at him, reported KCBS. Rodriguez is now hospitalized for his injuries.

Mendoza told CBS Los Angeles that he's still stunned and struggling to understand the attack on his grandfather, who has USA citizenship. Here's what you need to know. She also says the woman and the other attackers made racial comments to Rodriguez.

Shortly after, four others got out of a vehicle and started beating Rodriguez as well, family members said.

He was left severely bloodied and unable to walk, with bruised ribs, a broken cheek bone, a battered face and head injuries, his family said. Erik Mendoza, his grandson, told the local station his grandfather doesn't speak English and doesn't understand why he was attacked.

Of the injuries and the gruesome nature of the beating, Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy D'Angelo Robinson said: "We are concerned, especially with the type of crime they committed". "There was what appears to be a 4-year-old child there who witnessed the entire thing", he said.

Rodolfo Rodriguez, 92, is seen in a Los Angeles hospital after sustaining a broken cheekbone and bruising in a beating on July 4, 2018, by unknown assailants in the Willowbrook neighborhood.

Misbel Borjas, who saw the incident and captured it via her phone, told CNN that she attacked the elderly man, telling him to "go back to your country, go back to Mexico". Rodriguez is a legal U.S. resident, according to Independent. He said he apologized and turn to continue his walk when the woman hit him from behind, knocking him to the floor.

"And then when one of the witnesses comes out of her vehicle and starts screaming at her, four other guys come in and start kicking on him", Mendoza told KTLA. "He's 92 years of age. What kind of threat does he pose to you, for you to do this to him?"

"We just lost our son", she said in Spanish through tears, "and to see him like this was unbearable".

The mother of the toddler pushed Rodriguez to the ground and began hitting him with a brick, KTLA-TV reported.
