"China, on the other hand, may be exerting negative pressure on a deal because of our posture on Chinese Trade-Hope Not!", Trump added, in what could be a bid to shift the blame away from the North Koreans and onto China.

His tweet follows USA secretary of state Mike Pompeo's visit to North Korea last week for the first high-level talks on denuclearisation since Mr Trump and Mr Kim met in Singapore in June.

Pompeo said a Pentagon team would be meeting with North Korean officials on or about July 12 at the border between North and South Korea to discuss the repatriation of remains and that working-level talks would be held soon on the destruction of North Korea's missile engine testing facility.

He characterised the discussions as positive, but hours after he left Pyongyang, North Korea issued an angry statement rejecting what it described as Washington's "gangster-like" demand for rapid nuclear disarmament. He said North Korea understood that denuclearization must be "fully verified" and "final". Trump offered security guarantees to Pyongyang and pledged to suspend the large-scale military drills with South Korea.

Pompeo said he did not meet Kim on his latest visit to Pyongyang, as he had twice before, and he had not anticipated doing so.

"At first people paid attention because it was a lecture on South Korea, but as the criticisms continued people began to nod off", the source said.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in is known to want a formal peace treaty with the North, one that will pave the way for other agreements on trade and bilateral cooperation. The two sides also failed to make concrete progress on the return of the remains of USA soldiers killed during the 1950-53 Korean War and the demolition of the North's missile launch site in Tongchang-ri.

-Vietnamese business community in Hanoi, Pompeo said Vietnam's experience since the normalization of relations with the U.S.in 1995 should be proof for North Korea that prosperity and partnership with the U.S.is possible after decades of conflict and mistrust. China is North Korea's main ally and economic benefactor.

At the same time, however, US intelligence reported signs that Pyongyang doesn't intend to fully give up its arsenal.

According to Graham, China is using the north to force the USA to negotiate on trade.

"The US just came out with such unilateral and gangster-like denuclearization demands as CVID, declaration, and verification that go against the spirit of the North-US summit meeting", he added, calling the talks "really disappointing". "We're in a fight with China", he said. Pompeo spoke with Trump, Bolton and White House chief of staff John Kelly on Saturday before his second round of meetings with Kim Yong Chol.

The trip was Pompeo's third visit to North Korea this year and occurred amid reports of American intelligence assessments that Kim is continuing to develop the infrastructure for his nuclear program.

"The U.S. side came up only with its unilateral and gangster-like demand for denuclearization", the statement, shared by The Post, said.

Mr Pompeo said that in past two decades, USA bilateral trade with Vietnam had grown 8,000 per cent, and American companies had poured in billions of dollars of investments.
