Brock Lesnar Challenges New UFC Heavyweight Champ Daniel Cormier

"I never knew what I could become but tonight I got the answer, I'm a two-division champion, baby", Cormier told Joe Rogan after the fight. Or if I fight Brock Lesnar I get paid.

In the UFC 226 main event, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic put his title on the line against reigning light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier in Las Vegas.

Lesnar called out the fighters at UFC before saying he was coming for Cormier.

Welterweight champ Georges St- Pierre defended his belt in 2009 by battering lightweight champ BJ Penn, and McGregor accomplished his feat less than two years ago in his most recent MMA fight.

"There is a guy that I've known for a long time", Cormier said. Lesnar is a former UFC heavyweight champion and has been heavily rumored to be entertaining the idea of a return to MMA.

Later in the night, during the post-show press conference, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Cormier vs. Lesnar would be happening in the future.

The pair clinched in the centre of the octagon and, as Miocic looked to break, Cormier came over the top with a short right hand that landed clean behind the champion's ear, sending him crashing to the canvas.

Lesnar, 40, hasn't fought in the UFC since he defeated Mark Hunt by unanimous decision at UFC 200 in July 2016. However, Lesnar tested positive for a banned substance and was suspended for a year.

"We're definitely going to make that fight", White said of Cormier and Lesnar. He is now the UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, becoming just the second fighter in the promotion's history to hold two belts simultaneously. If Cormier were unwilling to rest until Lesnar is made available, Lewis would happily step right in. The referee jumped on top of Miocic and stopped the fight to prevent any further damage. But, given the state of its heavyweight division, the same can not be said for the UFC.
