Comcast says fiber cut causes nationwide service outage for businesses, customers

Comcast customers across the United States experienced a massive internet, cable TV, and telephone outage on Friday.

A spike in outage reports everywhere.

Comcast is experiencing a nationwide outage that is affecting users' cable and internet services.

Comcast says the company is working hard to resolve the problem.

As far as we can tell, the cut fiber line primarily affects those with Comcast or Xfinity services.

"Due to connectivity issues, all of our digital properties are now unavailable".

DownDetector.com showed many popular websites and service providers went down about the same time.

Customers in Seattle, Portland and Spokane also had reported outages. Customers in some areas such as Pittsburgh and Chicago are reporting that service has come back up.

UPDATE: June 29, 2018, 2:03 p.m. PDT: According to CNBC, Comcast officials claim "services are now being restored".

According to CNET, two lines were actually severed: one between Chicago and NY and the other between Ashburn, Virginia, and SC. Internet service was not affected. "For many people, the internet is essentially their lifeline".
