Kansas star Malik Newman agrees to two-way contract with Lakers

The Lakers added some size and shooting in the first round with the selection of Moritz Wagner.

The Lakers have an idea of the type of players they are looking for.

"You know, Chris is going to return there".

The Lakers will get the No. 39 overall pick in this year's draft, and send their 2019 second-round pick and cash to the Sixers.

He returned to North Carolina for his senior season and averaged 17.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists, earning third team All-American honors.

Other than Newman, the Lakers also got Mo Wagner of MI and Newman's teammate in Kansas, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk.

Wagner played in the youth system of German pro team ALBA Berlin before MI coach John Beilein traveled to Europe on a one-day recruiting trip and persuaded him to head for Ann Arbor. Previous year during their first draft together, Johnson and Pelinka found Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart with the 27th and 30th overall picks.

Wagner isn't a great defender and like Love, he probably never will be.

"I feel like it's just a blessing to be part of the Lakers and be part of the NBA", Mykhailiuk said.

The Michigan product, though, likes how the current Lakers are trying to play as fast as the Showtime Lakers did. "So I think it worked out pretty well, and I'm very excited to be in this position".

Mykhailiuk was an outstanding outside shooter for the Jayhawks' Final Four team, scoring 14.6 points per game while hitting 115 total 3-pointers. He didn't shoot as well as he wanted to, he admitted after one of the workouts, but obviously did enough to convince the Lakers he was their guy. I just can't stop smiling.
