England boss Gareth Southgate INJURED

Coach Gareth Southgate has praised England defender Harry Maguire after his performance in England's 2-1 win over Tunisia on Monday.

"Poch texted me after the game". "He is rooting for us". He has lots of lads here.

"He is not just my boss, he's my mate. he's the manager but he's a friend as well. It is nice to have that kind of relationship with him".

But if you scratch beneath the surface with England, you will not find much depth in the goal scoring department outside of Kane.

This I find astounding because when I first arrived in England, the majority of people I talked to told me they played or watched football regularly. "I am so excited to be here, but it is about proving a point".

"The Euros were disappointing for me, for everyone, so it was a challenge to put that right".

"He scored the two goals, but he brings more to the team than that".

Cristiano Ronaldo leads the goalscoring charts following his hat-trick against Spain. I don't think he did that. The challenge is there. In the high pressure situations shows what type of player you are and he does it time and time again!

The only store I saw celebrating the World Cup (which a picture of Harry Kane on their shop window) is the official shop for Norwich's F.C. which hardly counts. "The only way to do that is to perform on the big stage, in the big moments".

"As a player, sometimes the less information the better", he said.

Players still had to cover themselves with bug spray before the game and at halftime, but that seemed to have little effect.

"We have got such a great support team and they were there very quickly".

We have made an encouraging start, and there were plenty of positives, but I am not going to get carried away.

"I might not be celebrating any goals as athletically in future!"

"The key is always to believe". But they never took advantage of their initial dominance and chances. Yes, there have been changes off the pitch in recent years but when it comes to playing the match, you'd have to say it was similar to previous regimes: a lack of energy, ideas and penetration.
