The Broward County sheriff's office said in a statement that an adult male who was shot near Miami on Monday afternoon and taken to a hospital was later pronounced dead.

XXXTentacion, the rapper born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy.

Videos taken at the scene and shared on social media showed the rapper's slumped body in the driver's seat of a black sports auto as a bystander attempted to take his pulse.

Dispatch audio obtained by TMZ revealed the attack was a possible drive-by, and that the rapper was described as "comatose".

An eyewitness to the shooting tells TMZ that the rapper had "no pulse" after being shot, but Variety was unable to confirm that report. We have learned that XXXTentacion has tragically passed away at the age of only 20 years old after a shooting. He has been rushed to a hospital and his condition is now unknown.

No motive was given for the killing, though the rapper had been in legal trouble recently. He feuded with Drake and was briefly pulled from Spotify after he was arrested on charges of domestic abuse against his pregnant girlfriend. He was also facing witness harassment and tampering charges. A judge in March granted his request to be freed from house arrest in order to take his music on tour.

On his debut album, 17, he talked sensitively about depression and mental anguish, largely forsaking hip-hop beats for acoustic guitars and smudged, sullen melodies.

In one incident, she accused him of headbutting her, forcing her into a bathtub, and kicking her because she had sung the words to a song by a friend of his in the vehicle, she said in the deposition. The move came as part of Spotify's attempt to condemn artists who break a "hate content and hateful conduct" policy.
