Rapper XXXTentacion shot dead in Florida


XXXTentacion shared a video on Instagram about a day before he was shot and killed Monday in South Florida, describing how he wanted to be remembered by fans.

According to emergency dispatch audio obtained by The Blast, officials believe the shooting was a possible drive-by after witnesses reported hearing several gunshots.

The Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed that police had responded to a shooting in the area, and that an adult male victim had been taken to the hospital.

His song 'SAD!' has risen sharply in the New Zealand charts since the news of his death broke after his album '?' peaked at number 2 when released in March this year.

A subsequent tweet reported that the victim in that incident had been pronounced dead.

Born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, he hailed from Flordia's Broward County and first came to a moderate degree of fame in 2017 thanks to his SoundCloud hit "Look At Me!".

The 20-year-old rapper was shopping for motorcycles in Miami when someone ran up to his auto and shot him. Investigators are still searching for the shooter (s), who they say may be driving a dark SUV.

The vehicle has been confirmed as a black Dodge Journey, with dark tint and black wheels.

Despite his legal troubles, XXX has found success in the entertainment industry with his last album debuting at #1.

Earlier in the afternoon Monday, the rapper posted a message to his Instagram Story that read, "planning a charity event for this weekend Florida!" TMZ reports XXXTentacion was on house arrest, but a judge recently let him out so he could tour.

The music-streaming service Spotify announced in May it was removing XXXTentacion's music from its curated and algorithmically generated playlists.

As TMZ reports, XXXTentacion had been awaiting trial on charges of domestic violence against his pregnant girlfriend, facing more than a dozen felonies including witness tampering.
