President Trump said Friday that he admires North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as a strong leader and that they now enjoy "good chemistry" after their historic summit.

BISHOP: You know, they did a lot more than they've really I think ever done to pressure North Korea. He noted that he gave Kim "a very direct number" and instructed him to "call me if he has any difficulties".

Trump touted the broad agreement he reached with Kim and said the North Koreans already have begun returning the remains of US soldiers missing during the Korean War.

SCHMITZ: Pompeo told reporters in Seoul he expected, quote, "major disarmament" in North Korea before the end of President Trump's first term in office. -South Korea drills that Trump - after meeting Kim - said would be terminated, Pompeo emphasized a key caveat: If the mercurial North Korean leader stops negotiating in good faith, the "war games" will be back on.

The decision to end the military exercises has been widely criticised as a major concession to North Korea, while the joint declaration Mr Trump and Mr Kim signed at the end of the Singapore summit has been criticised as lacking in detail.

In late May, Trump abruptly called off the meeting after North Korea made hostile remarks through its state-run media outlet.

Pompeo will meet President Moon Jae-in today to discuss the summit.

Mr Pompeo was speaking at a press conference in Seoul with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts. In agreeing to the summit, Trump risked granting Kim his long-sought recognition on the world stage in hopes of ending the North's nuclear programme.

According to the USA broadcaster, Mr Trump was briefed on protocol which states he shouldn't salute military officers from other countries.

North Korea has traditionally linked its pursuit of nuclear weapons to what it calls "hostile" USA policy, referring to the 28,500 American troops stationed in South Korea and the provision of a "nuclear umbrella" defense to Seoul in line with their bilateral alliance. "This is leaving its mark on the Iranian economy", he continued, referring to Trump's withdrawal from the landmark 2015 pact last month.

The inspector general report, while damaging to the FBI and to Comey personally, does not support Trump's allegation that political preferences influenced the conduct of the email investigation into his Democratic presidential rival.

When Ulchi Freedom Guardian was announced previous year, the USA military called it a "computer-simulated defensive exercise created to enhance readiness". For his part, Trump has found that positive news coverage of the summit a welcome change from the otherwise brutal news cycle covering his treatment of immigrant children, attempts to cover up his alleged marital infidelities and the Mueller investigation into his campaign's relationship with Russian Federation.
