New macOS Mojave Features That Will Change How You Use Your Mac

The operating system has been redesigned from the ground up so all windows, apps, and the entire Finder itself features a dark mode.

Other parts of your desktop app may require some custom code; Wired cited examples like making a Mac app sidebar translucent, and incorporating share buttons into the program's toolbar.

What are the biggest new macOS Mojave features?

Outlining the tech major's software plans for the months ahead, Federighi said that Apple would allow users to check if tracking on a website was enabled.

Apple's latest MacOS update ends a so-called "4-year mountain bender" with a trip to the desert in its latest MacOS version: Mojave. Unlike the Dark Mode introduced in Yosemite 2014 back, this re-introduced feature, turns the entire desktop interface dark.

Mac apps like Mail, Messages, Maps, Calendar and Photos have a Dark Mode design. New apps are now more prominent, displayed on large signs, and Apple's own curated editorial content is also more prominent.

But a darker desktop won't be the only thing changing this fall when macOS officially launches.

Apple unveiled its next desktop operating system this week, macOS Mojave, and as usual it includes a gorgeous new default desktop wallpaper image.

The Desktop Stacks feature will help users who don't organise their desktops. With this feature, all the content of your desktop is automatically arranged into stacks (by kind, date or tag).

There is currently no word on when Steam Link on iOS will finally be available, but Valve will likely now gain approval from the App Store once the app is resubmitted.

The new Mac Store also lists all the apps that need to be updated in the separate, Updates Section.

Apple wants to jam tools used by Facebook that automatically track web users, in the next version of its iOS and Mac operating systems. Autoplaying video of the apps and games give dynamic previews.

Finder has a new gallery view where users can skim through files visually.

The new store includes a ratings and review API, and new apps - such as Office 365 from Microsoft.

Apple has tried to make iOS 12 more intelligent this time around, with improvements added to Siri thanks to the Shortcuts feature for third-party apps. iOS 12 also comes with a redesigned Stocks app, News app, Voice Memo, while iBooks gets renamed to Apple Books.

"Safari now also presents simplified system information when users browse the web, preventing them from being tracked based on their system configuration", said the company at The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference.

Screenshots deliver new on-screen controls for easy access to every screenshot option and new video recording capabilities. At the same time, Apple is able to protect its valuable App Store revenue stream. The Developer Preview is a very early version of the software, so we wouldn't recommend most people download it. A public beta is scheduled to start in June, for all users.

Mojave will be a free download later this September and will be compatible with Macs introduced in mid-2012 or later, plus 2010 and 2012 Mac Pros with Metal-capable GPUs.
