McGrath to speak at Memorial Day service

Those who volunteer to place flags will receive breakfast at half price. Ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans and a variety of desserts will be served until 1:30 p.m.in Bosco Hall.

More than 1,000 Old Guard soldiers today were placing flags at Arlington National Cemetery at each headstone and at every column in the Columbarium and niche walls as a part of the annual "Flags In" ceremony ahead of Memorial Day. Anyone wishing to assist is welcome to participate. The Bigfork Memorial Day program with honor guard will be held at 11 a.m.at the American Legion Community Center in Effie (guest speaker to be Sandy Allen, American Legion Auxiliary and daughter of WWII Veteran Ardean Aakhus). Marine Corps, will serve as the keynote speaker. Weather permitting, the Commemorative Air Force will conduct a flyover during the ceremony.

As at Claquato, the general public is invited to attend any of the ceremonies along the route. May 28. Organizers are asking attendees to bring a chair to the event. Parking is available on Fairwood Drive and at the Church of the Nazarene.

At 8:15 a.m., the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Legion Auxiliaries, accompanied by the Hoosick Falls High School Band, will assemble at the corner of Main Street and Wilder Avenue and March to the Shop Bridge to honor men of the Navy who lost their lives at sea. At each location, there is a brief memorial service at the graves of departed comrades.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, having been a time set aside to honor the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves. This year's event will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Garden of Remembrance, located in front of American Legion Post 118 at 89-02 91 St.

The Memorial Day ceremony honors veterans laid to rest in Windsor, and will include comments and the placement of the memorial wreath by the American Legion; remarks from Mayor Kristie Melendez and guest speaker Colorado State Rep. Perry Buck.

The Hastings Memorial Day parade will be hosted by American Legion Post 45 and will begin at 9 a.m.in downtown Hastings on May 28.

The last Monday of May each year may signal the unofficial start to the summer season, but its meaning is much richer than backyard barbecues and a long weekend.

Memorial Day Program at Los Osos Valley Mortuary & Memorial Park: The program will begin with live music at 10:30 a.m. followed by a ceremony at 11 a.m. Con.

USA and ME flags at state facilities statewide should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon on Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day. In case of rain, the event will move to the South St. Paul High School auditorium. The 30-minute service will include scripture readings, patriotic hymns accompanied by organist Arthur Preuss and a brief sermon. The Memorial Day celebration will continue with the parade on West Boulevard.

Associated Veterans of Loveland will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday, May 28, Loveland Burial Park, 1702 N. Cleveland Ave. The service will take place at 9:30 a.m.at Hillside Cemetery at 13750 County Road 12.

The parade kicks off at 1:30 p.m. and travels east along Academy Road, north on South State Street, east on Main Street to conclude at Pioneer Park on the Fox River. The parade will wind down Mammoth to the Town Common for traditional services.
