Mike D'Antoni: Rockets are 'obviously the underdog' against Warriors

The Warriors walked off the Rockets' home-court with a 119-106 victory over Houston on Monday in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. He failed to score, shot 0 of six from the field and registered a minus-14 for the game in 17 minutes of action.

Kevin Durant continues to deliver in the postseason for the Golden State Warriors. Durant and Curry are second and third on the list. The Rockets entered the game averaging just nine turnovers per game in the playoffs. I said, 'Look man, Rockets may be able to give you all some problems.' And they basically cussed me out right there on the spot. "He can get any shot he wants". And Paul is playing in his first conference finals. "There were too many times where we had mental lapses. We need to do a better job of staying up mentally". When the Rockets had the ball, they worked hard to funnel Harden into particular matchups. D'Antoni is a clear candidate for Coach of the Year. "(But) we don't have it. "We've got this far doing that and having that mindset, so we're just going to continue with it".

I don't think it will be.

The Warriors, who are the second seed in the West, opened a playoff series away from Oracle Arena for the first time since 2014 when they lost to the Los Angeles Clippers 4-3 in the opening round.

Such was the case Monday night at the Toyota Center.

Cleveland was also pretty deep at the guard and forward positions, which is a necessary element in taking on the Warriors.

As good as Harden's game was, the Rockets ended up having one significant problem. However, Gordon was sensational inside the arc against Golden State, shooting 21-30 (70 percent) on 2-point shots in three games. That changed when they signed Durant, with whom they've gone 24-3 in the playoffs. Houston never regained the lead as the Warriors cruised to the win. "They are always in the game with 3-point shots". If they win Game 1, that makes Game 2 a must-win for the Rockets.

After one game, it's already apparent that this style isn't sustainable to beat the Warriors.

Green picked up a technical for his brush with Harden but kept his emotions just enough to avoid picking up another. Houston dominanted the fourth quarter in each game, out-scoring the Warriors, 58-37 in those two periods. The Rockets acquired Chris Paul to take pressure off Harden. A huge factor in that series was that Games 5 and 7 were in Oakland.

Durant is a former NBA most valuable player and the reigning NBA Finals MVP.

These two teams are in line for a special finish tonight and potentially a special series overall.

The Rockets led the league in wins, point differential and three-pointers. When you're the underdog, you've got to knock them out.

Harden needs more help from the other guys, but it may not matter.
