Float in Disney's Festival of Fantasy Parade catches fire

Debuting more than four years ago at Disney World, the Festival of Fantasy parade includes several themed floats such as Mickey Mouse and the royal "Frozen" sisters.

A fire-breathing dragon float at Walt Disney World caught fire Friday afternoon, Disney officials confirmed.

The steampunk-style dragon normally breathes fire as part of the show, but something malfunctioned and the entire head of the metal beast went up in flames.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the area clear, a Disney World spokesperson told the Orlando Sentinel. "The dragon was not looking the best after as you can see", one visitor wrote on Twitter.

While fire is supposed to come out of a dragon's mouth, it didn't take long for park-goers to realize that the intense flames were not a part of the presentation.

It happened during the Magic Kingdom's daily Festival of Fantasy parade. "Parade closed and the fire was promptly put out". An employee is usually stationed inside the mechanical dragon, sitting near the base of the neck, but no one was injured in the incident.
