Elon Musk Shows Boring Tunnel in Los Angeles, to Offer Free Rides

The inaugural Boring Company tunnel underneath Los Angeles is nearly complete, according to a post published by Elon Musk on Instagram Thursday night.

Before any member of the public can go for a ride through the tunnel, presumably on one of the company's proposed sleds, The Boring Company will need regulatory approval.

Last year Musk talked about a 2 mile proof of concept tunnel. "Am going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging". Elon Musk first shared his vision for the company in December 2016, promising to solve traffic woes with networks of tunnels for city centers. When that is obtained, in a few months' time, Musk promises to offer free rides to all passengers. As mentioned in prior posts, once fully operational (system demo rides will be free), the system will always give priority to pods for pedestrians & cyclists for less than the cost of a bus ticket.

He said the system will not have any big subway stations and instead will have "thousands of small stations the size of a single parking space that take you very close to your destination & blend seamlessly into the fabric of a city". Boring Company is seeking approval to tunnel into western Los Angeles.

He said both routes will include "true" Hyperloop technology with pressurised pods in near vacuum tunnels. In his subterranean vision, passengers will travel at speeds up to 150 miles per hour on an all-electric system, with pods attached to autonomous skates that are affixed to a track more than 30 feet below ground.
