Trump said in another tweet Sunday, referring to former President Bill Clinton going uninvited onto Lynch's plane in Arizona and talking to her amid the investigations.

The three chairmen wrote that there is "no legal basis for withholding these materials from Congress". Comey told ABC News that after this, Trump said something that distracted him: "He said, 'If there's even a one percent chance my wife thinks that's true, that's awful'". She adds that Comey's loyalty is "only to himself". "We're no longer that group in America that is apart from the partisans and that could be trusted".

It is unclear why Trump thinks reopening the probe into the email server would help Comey get a job with the Clintons.

President Trump slammed ex-FBI Director James Comey again over the weekend, this time for assuming Hillary Clinton would pummel the former reality TV star in the presidential election.

And White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said Comey "has a revisionist view of history and seems like a disgruntled ex-employee".

Reuters and other news outlets have obtained copies of Mr Comey's book before its formal release this week.

"I never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty", Trump tweeted.

President Donald Trump has been railing against former FBI Director James Comey for days now as Comey has been all over the news due to his highly anticipated book and upcoming media tour. Trump continued in his tweets.

The renewed attacks by Trump came as ABC News was set to air an interview with Comey at 10 p.m. EDT on Sunday in which he discusses his book, "A Higher Loyalty". But, he acknowledged, "I was operating in a world where Hillary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump, and so I'm sure that it was a factor".

The president insisted Comey is a "leaker and a liar" and called for him to be prosecuted for leaking "classified" information. He describes Trump as fixated in the early days of his administration on having the Federal Bureau of Investigation debunk salacious rumors he insisted were untrue but could distress his wife. On Friday, Stephanopoulos tweeted out a link to another preview where Comey describes warning Trump about one of the most infamous allegations in a dossier of claims involving Trump and Russian Federation, parts of which remain unverified.

"Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe", Trump began.
