MS boy, 9, shoots sister, 13, over video game controller, police say


We are learning more about the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old girl in Monroe County that law enforcement says was committed by her 9-year-old brother.

He said the boy shot the teenager, a student at Tupelo Middle School in MS, in the back of the head and that the bullet entered her brain.

WTVA reported the girl - identified as Dijonae White - died around 6:45 p.m. Sunday at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

Meanwhile, the sheriff's office says their investigation is still ongoing and right now they have not filed any charges against the 9-year-old boy or his mother. "At the same time, you're talking to a little boy that's nine years old".

"We want to make sure we're doing everything correctly", he said. So far, it's unclear how the boy managed to obtain the gun.

"I assume he's seen this on video games or TV. I think a lot of this goes back to these games, you know, where you hit the reset button where everybody's OK". Initial reports said the girl was 13. "I do know its a tragedy".
