Malcolm Butler agrees to 5-Year, $61M deal with Titans

An overlooked prospect in 2014 out of Division II West Alabama, he was invited to New England for a tryout and earned a contract on the offseason 90-man roster nearly a month after the draft.

"I really appreciate that from him". "They loved me at times when they shouldn't love me".

Heading into the draft, by addressing important needs at cornerback and running back, the Titans have given themselves a lot of flexibility in selecting players and can now focus on getting better at other positions of need, like guard, edge rusher, linebacker, and backup quarterback.

Signed as an afterthought undrafted free agent, Butler stole the Super Bowl XLIX spotlight after saving the victory with an end-zone interception as a last-second substitution. I want to make sure that he does everything to the best and I hope the best for him.

"I'll always have love for New England", Butler said. "I recovered pretty fast".

"You can't change the past", he said.

"I just talked to him in the cafeteria, and he was talking some things I wanted to hear", Butler said of Pees, with a smile. He has a bright future ahead of him and will now take his talents to Tennessee. It was just time to move on. "Even when you're not ready to move on, you've got to move on, so I just kept moving on".

Butler signed with the Titans on Thursday.

Butler's reported deal is for five years and worth $61 million with $30 million guaranteed.

He set a career high in 2016 with four interceptions, but his play wasn't enough for New England to lock Butler, then a restricted free agent, into a long-term contract.

In fact, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the race to land Butler is down to the Lions and the Houston Texans.

For those four seasons, Butler was paid $5.44 million by the Patriots, not including his postseason game checks. He went on the record with Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald to give more of his side of the story. My teammates, they should have my back because I never disrespected any of my teammates. "And I am going to do anything to help this team win".

Well of course as time passes I am sure more and more will come out about this story.
