These candidates ran as "independents" with the official results of the vote not showing their links to the PML-N, but does give the party effective control over the upper house.
Furthermore, the former secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and senior leader, Jahangir Khan Tareen is also said to have contacted senator-elect Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar and congratulated him on his success in the elections.
Under Pakistan's constitution a bill can not become law unless it is passed by both upper and lower houses of parliament.
