Walmart is completely changing up the meal kit space by offering more types of meal kits and more ways to buy them than any other retailer.
Walmart says ten different meals are now available in 250 stores, but will expand to 2,000 stores by the end of the year.
Some meal kits are created to be used with rotisserie chickens - like Thai curry chicken and chicken fried rice - and some can be heated up and on the table in less than 15 minutes: pot roast, cheesy ravioli bake and chicken marsala.
The latest move from Walmart supposedly owes its ideas to Hellofresh and Blue Apron, who have no brick and mortar stores, and yet have managed to tap into the meal kit market. The company said it was also selling rotisserie chicken meals in flavors like Thai curry chicken or chicken fried rice. The company will also introduce Dollars 15 meal-kit options in store, a product that was previously available exclusively online.More news: 2 children struck and killed in New York City
"Customers are busier than ever and we know getting a delicious dinner on the table can be a chore".
Walmart's meal kit is supposed to serve two people, and the price range varies from $8 to $15. Amazon started selling ready-to-cook meals in July.
Although several other retailers have tried the meal kit option, a lot of them haven't succeeded in this business venture.
The food kit meals were created in Walmart's Culinary and Innovation Center.
