Instant Pot Model Sold At Walmart Recalled

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Double Insight is recalling its Gem 65 8-in-1 multi-cooker because of a fire hazard.

Instant Pot says, in their post, that the affected products have batch codes of 1728, 1730, 1731, 1734, and 1746.

You can return the unit to Walmart and get a free replacement. It was sold exclusively at Walmart stores and on Walmart's website. You can find the batch code on the underside of the device.

Double Insight, the company that imports the appliances from China, has received more than 100 reports of the pots overheating and melting on the bottom. This comes after reports from Instant Pot users last month who said they were having the same problem that the recall mentions.

The company warned of the issue earlier in the week, but issued the recall Thursday. The CPSC says a defect in the manufacturing can cause it to overheat and melt on the underside.

The batchcode is the 4-digit number located at the bottom right of the label (See photo).

This follows a warning from the company for customers to stop using the multicooker after 107 complaints of overheating, five resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported.
