Samsung unveils Galaxy S9

Just to make it clear the Galaxy S9 has a single 12MP lens.

If you take a look at the spec sheet of the Galaxy S9, the upgrade isn't that drastic as compared to its predecessor. You can also buy unlocked versions more cheaply directly from Samsung - $720 for the S9 and $840 for the S9 Plus - though most people in the US buy through their carriers. The S9 comes with a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display while the larger S9 Plus gets a 6.2-inch panel.

The design is top-flight too, with a glass back, a metal frame, hardly any bezel and dust and water resistance.

Both the smartphones would have speakers that give a surround sound-like experience. The devices now support expandable memory of up to 400GB with a Micro-SD Card.

This year around, Samsung focused on improving the camera on the Galaxy S9 and S9+.

Samsung answered Apple's novel "animoji" or animated emoji feature with AR Emoji.

Apart from the fingerprint scanner, the phones use facial recognition technology and also feature an iris scanner. While the Galaxy S9 camera may have a higher aperture (With the iPhone X featuring a dual 12 MP lens with f/2.4 and f/18 specs), the iPhone X does a near-flawless job when it comes to low-light conditions, so it will definitely be hard to beat.

The new "Super Speed Dual Pixel" camera, as Samsung calls it, is by far the most impressive camera the world has ever seen on a smartphone, reviewers say. A machine learning algorithm also allows users to create a personalized augmented reality emoji, while Samsung's Bixby intelligence platform provides instant information about a user's surrounding when using the camera.

The Galaxy S9 is scheduled for release in South Korea and the U.S. on March 16.

There are two variants of the wireless charger now: the Fast Charge Wireless Stand and the Fast Charge Wireless Charging Convertible. It has been announced that Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be launched on March 16 in selected markets - but whether India is one of these selected markets is still unknown.

Samsung will have these devices in three colors: Lilac Purple, Midnight Black, and Coral Blue. Direct from Samsung is the best place to buy a Galaxy S9 and/or Galaxy S9 Plus, but not because it costs any massive amount less than the competition.
