PSL: Peshawar Zalmi gets the better of Islamabad United

The third edition of Pakistan's premier Twenty20 (T20) tournament, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), will kick off from 22 February in Dubai.

While Islamabad United will be playing their first match of the season, Peshawar come into the game having lost their first match by seven wickets to newcomers Multan Sultans. News of exhibition games between some franchises featuring the likes of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis along with many other younger players have been doing the rounds as have been statements of intent by all and sundry related to how the franchise they support will emerge as the deserved victor in this year's tournament.

Defending champions Peshawar Zalmi's owner Javed Afridi said that he wanted to make his team feel relaxed ahead of the action-packed cricket league.

Neither of those were defining, though, and it took the introduction of the captain Darren Sammy to the crease to alter the momentum.

Chris Jordan took the one wicket of Iftikhar Ahmed. The tournament has been a crowd puller, managing to create a wave of excitement among the legion of cricket fans across the UAE.

Today's match will be played at 5:00 pm at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In 39 balls they played 14 dot balls.

The controversy also affected the Islamabad United's title defence as their win percentage fell by nearly 20 per cent last season from the first season's 64.

It would have been easy for both England players to have refused to visit Pakistan, but their professional commitment to the betterment of Pakistan cricket has made them true heroes in the eyes of a nation where the sport has a special affinity to the masses.

Peshawar Zalmi vs Multan Sultans match will begin at 11 p.m. (IST), 10 p.m.
