Schools on lockdown after student shot himself in Ohio


The student's condition is unknown.

All four Jackson Township elementary schools are now closed and the high school is in the process of evacuating, officials said at the news conference. "Safety Services are on the scene at this time", the Jackson Local Schools District said in a statement posted on its website.

Police believe the young boy shot himself inside a boy's bathroom shortly before 8 Jackson Memorial Middle School in Stark County.

According to school officials, they are now working on an orderly dismissal.

Cars are wrapped around residential areas surrounding Jackson Memorial Middle School.

Students will be released to their parents in the near future. WKYC reported that the student has been hospitalized.

"I'm hoping he's still alive..." If I do go tell them I want the same thing as grandma.

"He said come get me in like an hour", according to mom.

Khawaja was late to school Tuesday, but when he arrived, he learned something was happening. "I just felt really scared".

Students were being released to their parents, who had gathered outside the school to reunite with their children, WKYC reported.
