Steve Kerr Lets Warriors Players Coach vs Suns

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green will miss Monday night's game against the Phoenix Suns with a sprained left index finger, the team announced.

During a timeout midway through the first quarter, Kerr gave his clipboard and pen to veteran Andre Iguodala.

"No", he said. "I think (Kerr) is coaching his team, regardless of who's on the other side". Rather than going through his usual work coaching the team, he chose to allow his players to do the work for him.

Stephen Curry finished with 22 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in just 30 minutes (he did not play in the fourth quarter). They'd already carry the respect of their peers, along with the ability to reach and motivate them.

With two games remaining before the All-Star break, it is unknown whether the Warriors will also hold Green out of Wednesday's game against the Blazers in Portland, thereby giving Green two full games to rest before the All-Star break. The Warriors enter this contest with a 6-4 record in their last 10 games and a 21-7 mark at home. "We figured it was a good night to pull a trick out of the hat and do something different". I think you've got to do your best in the National Basketball Association to keep things light and loose and occasionally throw the team a curveball.

And while playing the Suns helped revitalize the Warriors defense it also did wonders for a couple struggling players. Draw up the plays, give the motivation speeches, everything that coaches traditionally do during timeouts.

The players were in charge of everything Monday from shootaround in the morning to the game that night. They lost back-to-back games, three of four and four of 10 - all for the first time during the 2017-18 campaign. Imagine if you're the Suns, and you look over in the other huddle and you just see Kerr drinking a Gatorade while Steph Curry is drawing up plays for himself and his teammates to torch you until the next timeout. They are exhausted of my voice and I'm exhausted of my voice.

The Warriors have climbed the rankings this season in points per game (#1), field goal percentage (#1) and three point percentage (#1). For example, he's identified leadership qualities in Green, whom he used to coach for most of the game. I just feel like when we are focused we are really tough to beat. The Suns were missing their shooting guard, Devin Booker, who leads Phoenix in points per game with 24.1.
