New BMW X4 revealed for 2018

The all-new BMW X4 (fuel consumption combined: 9.0 - 5.4 l/100 km; Carbon dioxide emissions combined: 209 - 142 g/km) makes its mark by delivering individuality, dynamism and innovation in far greater doses.

When it goes on sale in July, the 2019 BMW X4 will cost more than $51,400, including destination, which is almost $3,000 more than the model it replaces. The 2019 X4 is now just over 3-inches longer than its predecessor, while its wheelbase has grown just over 2-inches longer and its now 1.4-inches wider. The X4 also gets BMW's nifty - though, as far as I'm concerned, unnecessary - gesture controls that allow you to adjust audio volume and accept or reject phone calls with a swipe of your hand. All of these elements come together to give it dynamically stretched proportions which are claimed to emphasise 50:50 weight distribution.

To look at, some may argue not much has changed with the trademark kidney grille at the front. It's flanked by twin LED headlamps units with swept contours and horizontal foglamps integrated into the outer air intakes. The sleek roofline, with an elongated signature Hofmeister kink at the base of the C-pillar, underscores the dynamic proportionsof the vehicle.

Around back, it features revised taillights and a rear bumper borrowed from 5 Series.

The vehicle brings together the signature features of a BMW X model with a coupe-like silhouette, providing the SUV with enhanced aerodynamics and sportier exterior design.

True, the X4 has been on the market for only four years, and models usually last around 6-7 years in one generation before being renewed. The seats have been redesigned with more aggressive bolstering. A large, free-standing 10.25-inch infotainment screen is standard and dominates the center stack.

Base prices are rising to $51,445, including delivery, for the new entry model, up from $48,595 for the outgoing entry model; and to $61,445 for the M40i, up from $60,245.USA sales of the X4 rose 4.2 percent to 5,198 in 2017. That model can sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 4.6 seconds.

All engines come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard and M Sport suspension is on all models.

What materials you'll find inside the new X4 depend on which version you go for, but many features are shared with the latest X3. Driver assist systems include blind spot detection, lane departure warning, daytime pedestrian protection, frontal collision warning with city collision mitigation, rear cross traffic alert for the rear and speed limit information.

BMW has revealed the new, 2018 X4 SUV, giving it a facelifted design, added technology, and introducing a new M40d badge with a powerful diesel engine for the first time.
