Doty was the Law Enforcement Officer Narcan Program coordinator for the sheriff's office and was also a member of the York County Sheriff's Office SWAT Entry Team, as well as an associate advisor for the York County Explorer Post 1786, WSOC reports. Brown has been with the force for 13 years and Doty has spent 12 years in law enforcement.

A York County, S.C., sheriff's detective who was critically injured in a shooting died Wednesday night at a hospital, authorities said.

The shootings happened after deputies responded to a domestic violence call late Monday at a home on Farrier Lane, outside the city of York.

A manhunt ensued, culminating in an ambush by McCall, who opened fire on the deputies in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

McCall ambushed and shot three SWAT officers searching for him in woods in SC.

McCall also could be charged with the possession and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, and a first-degree domestic violence charge, Brackett said.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., McCall fired again, and officers returned fire, Faris said. "The best way we can honor Mike Doty is to do what we as police do -serve everyone else".

Clinton was awaiting surgery and Brown was recovering from his second surgery, the sheriff's department said Wednesday.

Deputies had been called to McCall's house before because he said he was the victim in a domestic disturbance in 2015. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police assisted in blocking all of the roads heading towards Carolinas Medical Center-Main following the incident.

A neighbor, Roger Gilfillan, said he was stunned to find out who might be involved. "This is baffling", Gilfillan said several times, noting McCall lived in the home with his wife and two children. McCall frequently walked around the neighborhood, but would only speak when someone spoke to him.

Berry said a state police helicopter was shot and its rear stabilizer damaged during the search for McCall, but no one on board was injured and the chopper was able to land safely. The sheriff's office did not say whether they had criminal issues with McCall in the past. A few hours later, McCall ambushed some of the officers.
