State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said York County sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic call near York late Monday.

The York County Public Information Officer says all of this started after deputies responded to a domestic violence call around 10 p.m. Monday night.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., McCall fired again, and officers returned fire, Faris said.

A foot search led by K-9 units ensued on the outskirts of York, S.C., where they came across McCall at about 1 a.m. Tuesday. A patrol auto took him to an area hospital. The K-9 was not struck by the gunfire.

Those officers were identified as YCSO Detective Mike Doty, YCSO Sgt. Buddy Brown, and York Police Sgt. Kyle Cummings.

Det. Michael Doty is in critical condition and is "hanging on to life", Sgt. Sheriff Kevin Tolson was at the hospital Tuesday morning, Berry said. "We've had a lot of support, texts, emails", Tolson said.

Authorities arrested Christian Thomas McCall, 47, who also sustained gun wounds in the crossfire, according to the press conference. The third was taken by ambulance.

The manhunt intensified and about two hours later McCall ambushed three SWAT team members in the woods.

The solicitor said it was too early to file charges in connection with Det. However, SLED made a decision to wait on Doty's condition before proceeding.

All of the officers involved in the incident are white males, as is McCall - who was wounded prior to being taken into custody. York is around 25 miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina.

"One officer was critically wounded and his situation is very critical at this time", he continued. York Police Chief Andy Robinson said Sgt. Cummings was out surgery and is expected to be OK.

There is no immediate update on their condition, however a spokesman for the York County sheriff's office told reporters early Tuesday that those wounded "could really use your prayers".

Four law enforcement officers required surgery after a suspect allegedly shot them during a massive overnight manhunt in York County.

Patrol cars from the York County Sheriff's Office were visibly parked outside CMC Main Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting has shaken the SC county.

SLED has been called in to help with the investigation.
