Fireworks experts share safety tips for New Year's Eve

Members of a church managing a fireworks store in McLennan County expect a busy New Year's Eve.

"There's indoor programming planned in the federal building there, as well we've relocated some of our roving entertainment into the pedway", said City of Edmonton supervisor Tannia Franke.

New Years Eve fireworks are generally on a 3-5 year contract and can take up to 12 months to prepare for.

"By 6 p.m., there will be a line to the door or out the door and by 9 p.m".

In Ireland, the fourth annual Dublin New Year's Festival will get underway in the city later today.

"What that means for us in terms of numbers, in round figures, that's about 2,000 police over and above our business-as-usual committed to New Year's Eve", Mr Crisp said.

"This is a fabulous way to see out 2017 - the year that four out of five Sydneysiders said a resounding "Yes" to marriage equality", Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said. It won't happen there until 7:00 a.m. ET/6:00 a.m. CT the following morning. City officials said Friday the event will begin shortly before midnight with a DJ set followed by fireworks.

-Have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of water on hand to extinguish any incipient fire.

"If you want to see fireworks, go to the show along The Embarcadero and leave it to the professionals."

Furthermore, Faulkner advises to keep pets inside when discharging them because they can be startled by them and run away or hide.

-Dispose of fireworks only after you are sure they are completely extinguished.
