Autonomous, electric, and final mile transport solutions have made headlines at this year's edition of the world's largest technology fair, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas, US, this week. Expect to see plenty of new smart home devices with inbuilt Alexa capabilities, while competitor Google is also expected to make some announcements around its own Google Assistant. "The VCR was followed by the introduction of JVC and Sony's camcorders and Phillips" and Sony's CD player in 1981, while the DVD was first shown off in 1996. Home-entertainment equipment is expected to be among the technologies overhauled at CES this year, with LG promising to unveil the largest OLED television to feature an 8K resolution - more than double the sharpness of top televisions now on sale.

The screen is expected to be slim, offer deep blacks, and feature more than 33 million self-illuminating pixels for the clearest picture to date.
Whereas the 2017 CES was underscored by a heavy focus on smart home automation, this year's edition of the event will likely place more attention to the emerging fields of virtual reality and artificial intelligence. It is one of the biggest tech shows of the year and a ridiculuous amount of gadgets will be previewed at the show.
Despite being a convention dedicated to incredible (and sometimes very bizarre) upcoming technology, the Consumer Electronics Show is subject to power loss like anything else. Both large and smaller ones rely on the annual trade show to ink deals that will translate to cash months in the future; the blackout disrupted some of the product demos, panels and meetings key to those deals.
