In Detective Pikachu, players control a human that works alongside a deep-voiced Pikachu who has somehow learned how to speak English (or whatever language you play the game in) to solve mysteries and chase down criminals. The game is re-releasing as simply Detective Pikachu on the Nintendo 3DS come March 23, 2018 with new added story content, locations, and more characters to meet.

Detective Pikachu finds the hero of the title... a unique Pikachu in the Pokemon world... partnering with Tim Goodman and searching for evidence and clues to solve a series of cases, while also investigating the disappearance of Tim's father, Harry Goodman. When used with the game, it unlocks special videos with hints for your investigation.

There will also be a new Detective Pikachu Amiibo, and it's huge, standing almost twice as tall as the standard Pikachu figurine.

Back in early 2016, The Pokemon Company released Great Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo (Meitantei Pikachu: Shin Konbi Tanjo) for Nintendo 3DS.

Reynolds will not be part of the game, however. Unlike the game, this amiibo doesn't have a release date yet.

Crime is rampant in Ryme City, and it's up to a coffee-loving Pikachu to help uncover clues and put the bad guys behind bars. That presentation had a lot of new Switch games announced, but lacked any amiibo news, making some fans nervous.

However, the announcement of Detective Pikachu for the west means more goodies. Pikachu amiibo. Plus, the jumbo-sized amiibo will let players see all nearby available Pika Prompts, which apparently are hidden during normal gameplay. There's also a joke about how an intelligent Pikachu likely wouldn't take being ordered around by a trainer very well, and who knows what other jokes will be had at his expense.
