Which is why today's announcement that the next two years of the Overwatch League (Seasons 1 and 2) will be exclusively broadcasted on Twitch is such a comfort to fans. If you watch to check out this action for yourself, the best place to tune in will be on Twitch, where every single match from the inaugural season will be broadcast. The Overwatch League in-game menu isn't just for staring at the shiny new skins - players can watch the games via this menu when they're live. For players who log on before February 13, they'll be awarded with enough "league tokens" to get one skin for a character for free.

"Our fans love to engage with content on Twitch, and we wanted to drive significant viewership of the Overwatch League in its inaugural season and beyond", said Armin Zerza, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment, in a statement.

The Overwatch League, which is based on Activision's hit shooter game, features teams from 12 cities, from London to Shanghai. "Given Overwatch's consistent reign as a top viewed game by our community, we look forward to offering their pioneering style of league play to a large and passionate fanbase that will be able to bond over not only their favorite plays, but hometown pride".

Blizzard has experimented with streaming their esports events on platforms other than Twitch, and it has nearly always been met with resistance.

You can get these Overwatch League tokens simply by following the same steps as you would were you to purchase the skins themselves. Activision Blizzard will simulcast six games per week on MLG, the Twitch competitor that it acquired for a reported $46 million in 2016.

Perhaps with Overwatch as the new marquee title, distribution trumped acquisition. Now we'll see how far it can go.
